It's Down to Four
All that are left are the Boston Red Sox, Tampa Bay Rays, Los Angeles Dodgers, and Philadelphia Phillies. It could be 1978 instead of 2008, I suppose, because the Sox, Dodgers, and Phillies were all in the playoffs. Wait, I take that back. Someone named Bucky Dent, a short stop for the Yankees, hit a home run that sent the Sox packing and the Yankees into the playoffs. Heck, the New Yorkers played the Kansas City Royals. Do you remember when the Royals were actually a great baseball organization?
So, the Dodgers beat the Phillies and the Yankees beat the Royals. The Yankees are kind of like the Rays because they're from the American League East and George Steinbrenner who owns the Yankees lives in Tampa and that's where the Yankees train today. A stretch, sure.
I would like to see a Rays/Dodgers World Series. Why? Because the upstart Rays are an awesome example of organizational planning and patience. Plus, their manager has cool glasses. The Dodgers haven't been to the Series since Kirk Gibson in (yeah, 1988) the eighties. Plus, to add to the Yankees frustration of 1) having George as an owner, 2) losing to the Rays, and 3) missing out on the playoffs again, the Dodgers manager, Joe Torre, was escorted away from the Yankees last fall. After leading the team to four World Championships since 1996, you would have thought Torre would have deserved better than to be jettisoned from the "family" and end up on the other coast managing the Yankees former biggest rivals from the 50s. And 60s. And 70s. And 80s.
The two Joes, Maddon and Torre, would make a pretty good match–up because each of those gentlemen manage a game with care; plus, they're both calm and enjoyable to be around according to all who have played for them.
Good luck!!!
