I Am Not a JD Drew Fan

JD Drew autographed ball from the '07 World Series.
I am not a fan of Boston Red Sox outfielder JD Drew. I remember when he was originally drafted by the Philadelphia Phillies he refused to sign a contract. He was the Phillies first round pick in 1997. The next summer he was the Cardinals first round draft pick. He signed. He played for the Cards for parts of six seasons.
After the '03 season, the Cards traded him to the Atlanta Braves, where he played for one season. Both were decent seasons, so he went for the riches and signed a five–year contract with the Dodgers. He played for the Los Angeles team for two seasons before OPTING out. He said he wouldn't, but he did. His stats have never been that great. He's hit in the clutch now and then.
I don't see what the heck the Red Sox saw in him to risk signing him to a long–term deal worth several million. He made $14 million last season. And, he just grounded into a double play, which he does often.
I once saw him start a bench clearing brawl at a spring training game in Lakeland. He's not my favorite player. Oh, and he barely played in 100 games this season. By the way, the Phillies are still in the hunt; they're battling the Dodgers. Drew's current team, the Red Sox, they're battling the Rays for the American League Championship. Here's hoping that Drew doesn't make it to the Series again ....
