Thames
I'm in the minority who believe that Marcus Thames is better served as a utility outfielder rather than an everyday player. He hits much better off the bench than he does playing every day. It seems that everytime he enters the starting line–up for an extended period, the real Thames shows up. I like him in the utility role. Plus, no matter how many homers he hits, he rarely knocks in key runs — or that many.
Thames made an error in the second inning of the game against the Cleveland Indians that allowed the first run to score. He's barely adequate defensively and all he does at the plate is homer or strike out. He's not a clutch hitter.
Change is in progress in Detroit Rock City!
UPDATE: Grady Sizemore just hit a three–run jack to give the Indians a 5–0 lead. How much are we paying Nate Robertson? Too much and for too long. Too bad they can't release him.
Robertson's contract: So why did Robertson sign? It's a lot of money, and a lot of security. Sure there's a chance that he would get more if he went year by year (and if his record improved). But if you had a chance to guarantee that you'll get $21.25 million over the next three years, setting you and your family up for life, in the city and for the team you want to play for, you'd do it, too.
