Disappeared? No, I'm here

Good evening. You're probably watching the same TV show I am: the Sunday Night Game of the Week on ESPN. The Tigers are hosting the Los Angeles Angels of Aneheim (you might remember them better as the California Angels ...). Justin Verlander is pitching okay, but the Tigers hitters are still hibernating tonight. Must be the colder weather.

Where have I been? Starting March 10, I've been coaching varsity softball. Practices last a couple hours each night and now that games have started ... Anyway, I've been spending a lot of time writing on the Central Montcalm Softball Blog. We're off to a slow start, but continuing to improve. I'll try to write more here, though.

Random thoughts will follow.

I remember growing up and reading the Detroit News regularly, but I really looked forward to Sunday's paper in the summer because it contained the updated statistics of the Tigers and the other 25 (yep!) teams. Teams like the Montreal Expos, California Angels ... I looked forward to Joe Falls' Sunday column, as well. I think it was called Sunday Musings or something like that.

In 1993, I went to Alaska in December to visit my cousin. The flight out was long, as you would expect. I remember the headline in the Detroit papers that day, though, was that Isiah Thomas was promised the chance to take over the Detroit Pistons as team president and general manager when he retired. It did not happen.

Going to Tiger Stadium in the 80s was awesome. I remember getting so fired up when we would finally see the stadium when we got to Detroitt. It didn't matter where you sat, you were not far from a large pole that would block your vision. Tiger Stadium had unique smells, unique seats, large urinal troughs ... It was just an interesting place. They say that it's finally going to be tore down. That'll be a sad day. I wish they could keep part of it somehow ...

Have a great night. I'll check back in soon.
