Losey Leads the Crew in "Margaritaville"
For some of you, when you were younger and your parents started playing the vinyl 33-1/3 version of Changes in Latitudes, Changes in Attitudes by Jimmy Buffett, you probably knew that your parents were either going out with friends that night or they were having friends over.
You might have learned at a young age, maybe seven, that Jimmy Buffett's music was "party" music. It took a few minutes for the song to kick in, but that weird one about the blender and what it would render ... stepping on a Pop Tart, and all that, yeah ... yeah ... "Margaritaville" would play.
Well, on Saturday night, when Losey was in town with his guitar, someone who might have owned that old vinyl record in the seventies was able to get that classic tune played live -- right in her son's basement. No, Jimmy wasn't there, but it sure was fun to belt out a few lines and shout, "Salt, salt, salt ..."
It's funny in a way, but "Margaritaville" has really stood the test of time. It's a hugely successful song, and for years was Mr. Buffett's only Top-10 hit. He sang about time a couple years back with Nashville country legend Alan Jackson and arrived back into the charts. But, that one hit song from the late seventies means a lot, even as it means so little. Where is Margaritaville? It's a state of mind, according to the song's author. Margaritaville, I presume, is a happy place.
Like the Heitmeyer Pub last Saturday night. Mom and Dad, hope you had fun!
