Thoughts and jots

It's November 15. And in most places in rural Michigan, that means no school for students. It's the first day of the hunting season. We call it "Safety Day," but what it really means is "we won't have 75% attendance needed to count the day ..." Of course, that 75% attendance refers to students, not staff! Good luck to all the hunters. I know that I see a lot more deer along the road and in the road than I would prefer ...

Sheridan Elementary's new teacher started on Monday, and her first couple of weeks are going to be interesting. Why? Because there is no school today, nor next Thursday or Friday. I guess we're breaking her in "gently." Actually, her first couple of days have gone well. Moving classrooms, shifting schedules, tweaks, and twists ... It's all part of making change!

Did I talk about conferences last week? They're done and they were successful. We had 86% of our students represented in conferences with parents. That's a pretty good percentage, but 100% would be better. Getting parents involved in their children's education is tough, keeping them involved, tougher!

Thanks for tuning in!
