Losey's Wild Pitch

Hey, I didn't know that photo was commercially available yet!!!

The following article is written by Steven D. Losey for the Detroit Free Press. Rick did not write the article, though he agrees wholeheartedly with Losey. Rick did take the photo of Kracker and Losey, though. Anytime I borrow someone else's work from now on, I will credit them up top and not at the bottom. Rock on!

Rock Writer Issues Call to Motown Celebrities

Just before the Game 4 celebration I shook hands with Uncle Kracker and snapped a picture. (Editor's note: does anybody know who took the picture?) I got to thinking, where have all the Detroit celebrities been during the playoffs?

When any big games occur in L.A., Jack Nicholson and Penny Marshall are par for the course. In New York, Spike Lee, Billy Crystal and Donald Trump grace the crowd.

This is Motown. This is Detroit Rock City. Let's act like it. How about Ted Nugent flying in from Texas? You are the Motor City Madman, Ted. Bob Seger, could you chill on rehearsals and come down a time or two? On "Live Bullet" you once said, "Detroit audiences are the greatest rock 'n' roll audiences in the world." Be part of it, Bob! What I saw in Game 4 was the closest to a rock show yet. Mr. Alice Cooper, find a break from touring and head to Comerica. School's out for the Yankees, Oakland's coming and makeup is optional. Eminem and Kid Rock -- it matters, Marshall? What about it, Bob? Aretha, Detroit is finally getting R.E.S.P.E.C.T., show your face. Mr. Jeff Daniels, bring a few Hollywood friends. Ask them, "Who's your Tiger?"

I want close-ups. I want interviews. I want Chris Berman commenting on our huge contingency. I want Joe Buck acting like he knows who Kid Rock is. I want an arsenal of big guns blazing at our beloved home field. You all love the spotlight. Here it is, bask in it.

why aren't there any celebrities at the tigers' games...or the lions' games you ask......no tradition...no winning ways....both teams are stuck in mediocrity....they lose and lose often...and they lose horribly....just look at the 6 game slide the tigers went through to end the season..losing 3 to the royals....whose best era on their staff, relief pitcher or starter is like 4.50....the redwings get celebs because they have tradition, they have won, and continue to do so....why is it we have heard more about the fact that the yankees lost and joe torre may be fired vs the tigers won....espn is more concerned about joe torre than kenny rogers or any tiger for that matter...who did the oakland a's play...who did the mets pllay...who did the cardinals play....have not heard a thing about those teams that have lost, but you sure have heard a ton about hte yankees losing....

I disagree with you "anonymous." The Tigers have more "tradition" than the Wing, Pistons, and Lions combined. Screw the celebs, they just jump on the bandwagon anyway. It is easy to be a Yankee fan. We all know as MLB fans that it is the Yankees and the rest of the league and ESPN doesn't help matters. I can proudly say that I was, am, and always will be a Tigers Fan and as long as MLB allows the evil empire to spend more $$$ than any other team in the sport (what a joke), I will always be rooting against those Damn Yankees!

I love this piece, now that is the kind of stuff that is "baseball" and I can stand to read it. For some reason it just mad me lol. The Aretha part really cracked me up. Way to go with this one, but how will you be sure that all of our "faithful" Detroit fames will see this and hear your calling?
