Coffee Time is Anytime

Tim Hortons Coffee

I discovered Tim Hortons coffee when I barely liked drinking coffee back in the 1990s. I found the coffee shop and bakery in Drayton Plains, Mich., near Clarkston. I liked the mochas before I decided I liked the coffee.

This post is mostly about Tim Hortons coffee, but it may delve into the idea that I am a fan of logos and marketing. I've always thought logos were cool. But it will probably be mostly about coffee — Tim Hortons, Starbucks, and others.

I first started drinking the mochas when I would stop in Clarkston to visit Grandpa Morgan and Uncle John Morgan at Morgan's Service. I would travel the extra five or so miles to grab a mocha. Later, TH would open a store in Mt. Pleasant, Mich., so that made the journey shorter. By then, I was drinking coffee and buying cans of the ground beans at Tims.

Why do I like Tim Hortons coffee and not Starbucks?

  • Tim Horton was a hockey player.
  • Tim Hortons focus wasn't originally on the coffee, it was on the donuts and baked goods.
  • Starbucks focuses on strong coffee in sizes that most normal people don't understand and can't pronounce.
  • Starbucks is everywhere; Tim Hortons is in the northern United States and all of Canada.
  • I was told that there are Tim Hortons everywhere in Canada similar to how Starbucks is everywhere in the U.S. I cannot confirm this!

Coffee is delicious

I never really enjoyed or even liked coffee until I was in graduate school at Central Michigan University the first time. The professors and all of my classmates seemed to always be drinking coffee. Peer pressure won out and I decided to try it and it wasn't too bad. Eventually, I ordered just a coffee at TH and it was unlike any coffee I ever had tasted. It tasted sweet but I didn't add sugar. I decided that Tim Hortons would be the coffee for me. I just didn't think Folger's, Hills Bros., or any of the others would cut it.

Recently, Lori and I went to Leelanau Coffee Roasting Company in Glen Arbor and enjoyed a cup of coffee. We enjoy visiting the store in Glen Arbor several times a year.

Don't get me wrong. I like many different coffees. Locally, I like to go to Leelanau Coffee Roasting Company in Glen Arbor, Mich. And, if it's the only coffee available, Starbucks is all right. Overall, coffee is delicious! And there's nothing like sitting down and enjoying a great cup of coffee.

Tim Hortons changed its packaging recently. Which style do you prefer?
