May in the "D" (Looking Good, Tiger Fans!)

After losing to the Royals on May 14 last year, the Tigers were 16•24 after 40 games. Former Tigers manager Sparky Anderson believed that you didn't know anything about a team until 40 games were played. Justin Verlander was the pitcher in Game 40, and lost, falling to 1•7.

June 1 last year the Tigers finally won their 24th game, beating the Mariners in their 56th game. It was a year of high expectations and low return.

I've wondered lately just how much Gary Sheffield chemically altered that team. No, I don't mean he provided everyone with the "clear" ala Barry Bonds, I mean how much did his negativity rub off on his teammates?

It's going to be a fun season in the "D."
