GM sinking, sinking, bubbling (Going under ...)
What's going to happen if General Motors goes out of business?
It's going to cost 2,000,000 people their jobs.
Or should I say "jobs"?
I've heard for years about people (and these are first person reports) who go punch in at GM (or insert any car company) and leave for the day, return to work and punch out. They're paid for the full day.
I've heard of people going to work at GM, leaving to work at another job, and returning to punch out at GM. I was once told of a person who worked summers in a plant and was reprimanded by a veteran worker for sweeping the floor too quickly. Yes, sweeping the floor to quickly. He had to slow down to barely above a crawl so he wouldn't finish too quickly. Now to me, it seems like he could have finished early, left for another job, and returned to close up for the day ...
I read an article about the job bank where auto workers report "in case" they may be needed. They're paid. Fully.
Another person who worked at an auto plant in the '60s suggested that no one should ever buy a car made on a Friday or Monday. Apparently, about lunchtime Friday, the workers enjoyed a few too many beverages at the local watering hole, then returned to "work." And, on Monday, they had a difficult time "recovering" from their week–end "overtime." He suggested that stories remained the same ...
So, don't buy a car or truck made on a Friday or Monday because it may have been built by someone or no one or maybe a fill–in from the job bank ... Anyway, I heard the report from GM this morning that the company could close — could it really??? — and that would cost about 2,000,000 folks their jobs.
How do you find out the day of the week your car was built on, anyway?

I have actually heard those rumors as well, about the friday/monday cars. You used to have to pre-order your car and the dealer would know when it was being built. Now you always get them off the lot so you are lucky to know what month it was built in much less the day.
Boy, am I glad GM didn't take over Chrysler!
