The countdown ...
I'll be at the Tigers game tonight. It's the annual game to celebrate Grandpa Morgan. Grandpa Morgan and I went to the September 23 game in 2005 — just about a month before he passed away at 90. Each year, family members and I honor Grandpa's memory by attending a Tigers game. Tonight, it just happens to be a historic game.
When the Tigers lose tonight, they will fall into a virtual last place tie with the perennial terrible Kansas City Royals. The Tigers will fall to 71–85 and the Royals will move to 72–86. The Tigers will have a "winning" percentage of .45512 and the Royals' will be .45569. Essentially, the Tigers will be in last place. Far cry from 1,000 runs, eh?
I haven't checked in a while, but the Tigers probably still lead the majors in shutouts against — whoa, really, wow! But, I will remind you of this only 25 more times on this blog ... the '06 Tigers were build around pitching (I may suggest prepared by Bob Cluck, too) with some clutch (Craig Monroe, anyone) hitting mixed in. As many sports writers have suggested, the Tigers are a lot closer to last place than first ...
I'll be there tonight in Comerica Park, Detroit, Michigan. I'll snap a few pics and hopefully won't even wait to see the final out. It's been that kind of season. If that's what you want to call it.
