The Walk or Adventures in Fitness
I am in my second week of walking at least three miles every day. I decided that it only takes about 45 minutes a day to accomplish some quality fitness, so I'm doing it. Every day! It's been an adventure, though, and hasn't been easy.
One night, I decided to go for a longer walk and all the sudden a thunderstorm (yes, in January) rolled in. I was walking in a torrential downpour that featured insane lightening, loud, crackling thunder, and hail. At least I only had a mile to go in that nasty weather. This was actually an event that happened on January 7 — my first day of fitness. I thought about calling it good.
I trudged forward, though, and the other night I was at it again when a snowstorm seemed to float in from nowhere. I started out on my two–mile trek with a few flakes falling. Pretty soon, though, the wind kicked in and the light flurries became a blizzard of sorts. Again, I wondered if maybe this walking thing wasn't meant for me.
To top it all off, the Garmin Forerunner 101 that I use (The Forerunner 101 offers athletes and recreational runners and walkers an entry-level personal training device with GPS. It measures speed, distance, pace and calories burned, and it runs on 2 AAA batteries) will only keep track of my total information, not each walk. I like to monitor how effective my walking has been; however, the Garmin has really been tricking me! It's nice to know how far I've walked and how long I've been walking. It would be nicer, though, if I could look back at each walk. It's supposed to be possible!
Anyway, so far it's been a fun adventure. I walk my first mile at 5:15 every morning. The other two miles are at night. I'll keep trudging along!

As might wonder who this is, I finished 13.1 miles! What a difference one year makes! Last year I couldn't have walked because of my hip!
Way to go! Good luck for 5 miles a day!
