Brandon Inge is a Catcher Again (Welcome Back!)

It was January 2004, a cold and stormy night in Mt. Pleasant. The Tigers, coming off 119 losses, were doing their annual caravan. Present in Mt. Pleasant were Kirk Gibson, Jeremy Bonderman, Chris Shelton, Dave Dombrowski, Brandon Inge, and some others.

The players mingled with the fans, signed autographs, and posed for pictures. Besides the fact that the team was terrible, the weather was worse, so the Comfort Inn Conference Center wasn't very crowded.

Toward the end of the night, I had a chance to talk to Brandon Inge. I said, "Brandon, what's it like with rumors of the Tigers signing someone for $10 million to come in and be your back–up?"

He smiled and said, "I like the way you think."

It's beginning to look like Ingey had a five–year respite from catching, but he might just be the most likely replacement for his replacement ... Wouldn't that be something?

The newspapers and news outlets were reporting today that Inge would report February 15 with the pitchers and catchers and get reacquainted with the tools of ignorance. Good for him. He'll end up with a good, long career in Detroit, after all.

Brandon, don't get to used to that view. No, not Zumaya on the mound, dude, the view from third base!
