We've been going to the Dam Beach since 1983 or so. It used to be a lot better beach before all of the condos cut the size down considerably. It used to be a lot better when the dam itself was rustic and had trees and stuff. I'm told that kids in the 80s used to jump off the back of the dam and swim down stream. There's no stream anymore. The Dam Beach, an Elk Rapids tradition. The water's lower these days and the old docks that have since weathered away used to be several feet under water and you used to have to use a diver's mask to check them out. Now, they're above water. Time and geology. The Dam Beach, still there. Just smaller. And everybody loves the Dam Beach.
