Harbor Days

The annual Harbor Days events in Elk Rapids, Mich., were wonderful once again.

It's a busy week–end in ER during Harbor Days. A lot happens: the carnival/mid–way, world famous beverage tent, ducky race, paddle buoy paddle board race, and a great fireworks show on Saturday night to conclude the festivities.

My parents large backyard became a campground as several friends brought campers and tents and set up campsites. We had some great meals, excellent conversation, and overall a fun time. We cooked corn on the grill—which we hadn't done in 25 years—and it was as delicious as I remember. Mom also made some incredible chicken.

There were stressful moments like when our cat Dmitra and my parents' cat Delaney decided to push open a screen and jump outside. Neither of the cats are outside cats and it caused for some tense moments. Lori was able to find both cats, though, and is now a cat whisperer.

Did I mention that the water was warm, the air was almost too hot, and we all had fun, fun, fun until the week–end had to end.

There was great fun at the Heitmeyers in Elk Rapids. Mr. and Mrs. Heitmeyer, AKA Carlos and Salita, were very fine hosts. It would have been a long walk home without Carl and his battery charger and ether (Carl, did I not say something about a fire before we almost singed Lott's eyebrows off?) Loved the chicken, Sally. Thanks for a great weekend.
