The Embers Last Stand

Most of the guests had lengthy tales of their own to tell about the restaurant that defined fine dining in central Michigan.

Bob and Renee Patterson, of Mt. Pleasant, have been married 31 years and have been coming to The Embers for longer than that, the couple said as they ate the house salad Saturday.

"This was the big deal back then," Renee said. "People didn‘t go out to eat as much, so when you did you wanted it to be special. This was the place. Still is."

Once it closes, no other restaurant will be able to take its place, Bob said.

"You were always made to feel special here," he said. "Whoever you were, you were made to feel appreciated that you were in their restaurant."
