Wanna Bet?

I was wrong on both counts. No one was in line to meet the man with more hits than anyone in the history of the game. NO ONE. I venture to say that Mr. Rose was somewhat of a side–show circus act that had grown stale.

In talking to the Field of Dreams employees, their guest is their 10–15 days a month, signing autographs and posing for pictures. The deal is that you can buy a photograph, a hat, or ball and he will sign each one for free. The photograph, hat, and ball all run about $300/each.

Personally, I enjoy getting my autographs at the ballpark or when I run into some one in the airport or something crazy like that. I have never paid for anyone's autograph and never sold anyone's autograph, either. It's the pursuit that is fun for me.

I also enjoy teaching youngsters how to seek autographs, as well. It's an art. It's all about making the initial contact ... Pete would smile occasionally, but you can't help but feel that he would have rather been in Cincinnati managing Ken Griffey, Jr., and the Reds rather than sitting in Vegas with some goofy $1,000 cowboy boots and matching hat ...

But, alas, one should not do the crime if they don't want to do the time.

Cheers.

(And watch for more Las Vegas–related posts in the next couple of days).
