Professional development, planning, and a phone call from a sports writing rock 'n' roller

Anyone who knows me knows that I plan incessantly, an organized to a fault, and usually don't relax until a project is complete. Several years ago, I began working on new teacher orientation/induction programming. I first created a program at the school district where I worked in the late '90s/early '00s. Then, at Central Montcalm, I added the responsibility about a year ago. It's fun creating programming to help "new" teachers grow into the profession.

I became interested in induction because of my induction: here's a key. Good luck. Many people have similar stories! I overcame those early days, I think. No mentor, no feedback. Luckily, my second year another first year teacher arrived and we worked with each other to improve and critique one another. When I became an administrator, new teacher induction became a major focus. Currently, I'm trying to finish my Education Specialist Degree and my thesis involves new teacher induction.

This all leads us to today ... We held our first session today. Things went well. The feedback was generally positive. Working through the process, planning, delivering ... it's always stressful because I like things to go well ... but I also like the material to have value to people.

Well, early in the day, my cellphone vibrated. It was Steven Losey, the dude we met on I'69 back in June on our way to Indiana. He wrote the great article "Reason to Roar" and bought the '79 'Vette on ebay. Anyhow, he wanted to talk about the Tiger's disappointing end to the regular season. We had a great chat. He informed me that he will be covering the playoffs for the Detroit Free Press, so I'll be watching the articles. Imagine that ... a rock 'n' roll writer covering the Tigers! Ken and I plan to meet up with him Friday night at the first playoff game in Detroit since 1987. We'll probably enjoy a beverage, maybe a soft pretzel, and a good discussion about what a great 112 games ... Those last 50, OUCH!

Anyway, thanks for tuning in and listening to my rambling. Per the request of some readers, I'm trying to focus on a little bit more than just the Tigers. Did you see that Bob Seger tickets go on sale Saturday? He opens his tour in Grand Rapids in November. Any chance that he might co-headline with (Where ya at, Rock; where ya at?) KID ROCK?

See ya!
