Lansing (the I-69/I-96 Quandry)

I have successfully driven around and in several American cities, including Washington, D.C., Chicago, Las Vegas, Orlando, and Detroit (among others). A mid-sized city, though, is always tough on me: Lansing, Michigan. I don't know if it's because I-69 and I-96 (juxtaposed numbers and all) confuse me or what it is. The roads (e.g. M-43) seem to go in endless directions and confuse me. I always look for Cedar Street because I know that takes me someplace close to where I need to be ...

Anyway, the conference is paid for through a grant, so there was no additional payment from my school district in order to attend the conference. The grant even covered the cost of a hotel, so "they" put me up for the night. I had attended a few conferences here (the center where we are located) and the "center" is a cool place, so I figured a room here would be pretty cool.

WRONG!

It's smaller than a converted dorm room. It has one small bed that basically fills the center room. The bathroom seems like a bathroom in an airplane, no joke. I think I'll take pictures of it and maybe post them. The sleep was good, though, until the trains started driving through ...

I'm not complaining by any means ... I didn't have to get up EXTRA EARLY to get down here in a timely fashion (and I would have had to do it again tomorrow, also) so all is well.

The material we will be covering is high quality and actually goes beyond mentoring new teachers to focus on leadership and the development of leaders.

And the other thing to note is that when I signed up to continue the program it was Aug. 11 and Sept. 26 sounded like a long time away. It's here and we're preparing for MEAP and other activities. Time flies ....

Thanks for listening!!!

(P.S. If you have ever driven through and to Washington, D.C., you can successfully get around anyplace in the world!)

It isn't strange to hear that someone is having a problem navigating Lansing, MI. Growing up in Holt (five minutes south of Lansing) makes getting around town simple for myself, but just this past weekend my wife and I had friends in town from Grand Rapids and they were turned around several times Saturday night trying to find us during and after the MSU-Notre Dame game. I did start thinking about how confusing Lansing would be to an out of towner. I hope the conference is going well. Are you stuck at the Radisson by the Lansing Center, Rick?
