D-Y

Dmitri Young is due to come off the disabled list. Let's get some talk happening here:

1) D-Y may be the new version of Bob Higginson. Don't get me wrong, Bobby had a great effect on Detroit for several years. One of our labs is named Higginson. I've been calling him Jimmy Leyland lately, and he seems comfortable with that. But, his name is Higginson. I think that Alan Trammell made a major mistake keeping Higgy over Marcus Thames last spring. It caused him to lose a great deal of respect with last year's team; he was accused of being a member of the "good old boys club." D-Y has done a little bit for the Tigers. At times, he has seemed to be a big time leader; in 2006, though, I think he has found that the clubhouse is not longer his. There's a new sherrif in town.

2) D-Y could be a clubhouse concern if he doesn't get the playing time he wants. Things are jelling right now and I wouldn't want to see something affect the situation. D-Y is a professional, but he has always been a bit bigger than the team.

3) This is Jim Leyland's team and he will make the decision on where and when Dmitri will play. Rumor is that Dmitri is going to go Erie for some rehabilitation and then he will be re-evaluated. He told Skip that he's ready to play and Skip said, "Okay, go play in Erie" (or something to that effect).

4) Go Tigers!
