How do you raise cash when you need it? You sell stuff. Maybe you have a garage sale. Maybe you sell stuff on ebay. Maybe you list it on Craigslist.

These companies with a glut of merchandise. They need to avoid going out of business. What should they do? Sell stuff. Sell it all. Sell it fast.

Oh, people can't get credit right now. Oh, that's a problem. No, that's an opportunity.

Cash only. This week only, you can buy a brand new Ford F150 pick–up, four–wheel drive, extended cab for $8,000. CASH ONLY. No credit needed — for the company or for the purchaser.

It's not a going out of business sale ... No, it's a keeping American business business sale. I've said to many people, "When you have 11,000 people who report to work and don't work, that's a problem." The companies (short–sighted?) made a deal with the United Auto Workers in 1983/84 that doomed the industry. Sure, it took nearly 25 years for the final nail in the coffin, but it happened.

Here's the way to save the industry (yea, it's not this simple, but this could be a start):

• Lower the prices on the product to a price people can afford. Back in the day, Henry Ford wanted to create a product and a pricing scheme and pay his employees well enough that all of his employees would want and could afford the product. Sam Walton's vision was different: pay the employee just enough so he has to shop there. That is something that has to change in our society. Everyone needs a car, right? (Well, we don't have a system of mass transportation in this country ... )

• Build a product that people want and that is of high quality. If you buy a GM Sierra in 1999 because you don't want to do maintenance on a vehicle, you shouldn't have to have the truck back in the shop eight times for problems and another several for recalls. Quality is job one. Who said that?

• If you're paying someone to work, have them work. Those 11,000 people who you're paying could be part of a major project in revitalizing your city. You're paying them, let them work.

• Realize that it's the 21st Century. Catch up. Make automobiles that don't require gasoline. Obviously, your friends who you've supported for years don't care much about you because they didn't go to bat in this situation. Take note, folks, your days of running the country are over. Find your new niche.

Do it by lowing prices and making higher quality vehicles that are designed for the 21st Century.
