The Customer Service Quandry
Last Sunday, I had a strange experience. I was trying to buy gas at a station in Mt. Pleasant, but the card reader at the pump would not accept my card. I went inside and asked them to run it in there and it would work there, either. I drove to Chemical Bank itself and attempted to get cash out. Wouldn't work there, either. I was worried about identity theft. I checked the Internet and my account looked okay. There was no news about anything wrong with the system. I decided not to stress about it ... what could I do? I called first thing Monday morning and was informed that the system had crashed. A few days later, a letter arrived in the mail stating the same thing.
If I were in charge at Chemical Bank, I would have put the information on the front page of the Web site to inform customers that their debit cards probably wouldn't work that day. Instead, they followed up with a letter to all of their debit card customers — which may alarm customers who knew nothing about it. Why not announce it on your Web site on Sunday so people who NEED TO KNOW THEN are able to get the information right away?

I know I'm sounding like my mother....but you should TELL Chemical Bank-that is a good idea. Here I am, up in the U.P., and really RELYING on my bank card--if a person is out of town--it isn't too efficient to go there to find out what is going on. And if you have time to check, and it isn't their office hours--what better way than the web?
Glad is wasn't just me. I tried to get $ out of the ATM and it said transaction declined. I knew that I had funds in there so I went to another ATM and it worked.
