An Even Dozen
12. That's the number of snow/ice/inclement weather days our school district has had ALREADY this school year. Tonight, our district (and many, many others) called school for tomorrow already.
Closing school for tomorrow is a good move because the roads are absolutely terrible. A routine 35–minute drive has become almost a two–hour drive. Roads are slippery, the snow is icy, and the weather is treacherous.
Sure, some of you are saying, "That's the way winter used to be all the time." Granted, it seems we grew up in the 80s with lots of bad weather, but maybe we only remember the really crazy winters — and in actuality, the weather was only bad once in a while. Maybe.
Anyway, I know that many students, teachers, and others will always remember the Winter of '08. Tomorrow will be our third consecutive day off. I don't know what the outlook looks like for Friday at this point.
Twelve. Days. Off.
Wow. And it's only the beginning of the winter weather season. The fiscal year for schools ends June 30 ... what if we're still holding session?
If we're closed Friday, that would equate a Baker's Dozen. I'll be heading to Tim Hortons for coffee and donuts. Actually, a Boston Cream doesn't sound all that bad!
