Off and running on another week in education
You can count on one thing this week. The day of Halloween the kids will be totally excited that it's Halloween and they'll be focused only on trick or treating. The day after Halloween, the kids will be tired, but wired because of candy. That's the perils of education ...
Today, the week kicks off with professional development. We're learning about a phonics/spelling program at the elementary level. Tomorrow, I'll be at another professional development session — classroom walk throughs. Our intermediate school district is hosting this training and it's interesting. We'll meet seven total times during the school year to learn about the theory and practice behind effective classroom walk throughs.
As I mentioned, Wednesday is the students' favorite holiday!
Friday is our annual Grandparents' Luncheon. This is a fun event for our students and their grandparents. It happens to be a half–day of school because it's the end of the first nine weeks. Yes, you heard that correctly. The school year is almost 25% over.
November is a choppy month, with several days off for the students: Safety Day, Thanksgiving break, professional development, conferences, etc. Then, December arrives and ... it's almost a new year. Can anyone believe we're looking at 2008 in a few weeks?
Thanks for tuning in. Happy Monday!
