Twelve and three
The way I have it figured out is that if the Tigers go 12–3 the remainder of the season, they're in the playoffs. If they go 11–4, they'll miss out. Basically, if they end the year with a 92–70 record (same as in '83?), the Tigers will be the Central Division winners.
Of course, it all hinges on the Indians playing normal ball and the Tigers peaking at the right time. The Tigers have not had a solid winning streak all season. They haven't even really had a solid losing streak. I'm betting, though, after their struggles, they're ready to put something together.
Yes, Yankee Fan, on that fateful Sunday, I had given up. The loss to the Oakland Athletics was pitiful. There seemed to be more spirit the next few games, however.
Remember, folks, things did not look too good for the Tigers on Oct. 1, 2006, either. They finished their final home stand of the season by getting swept by the Kansas City Royals whose only goal was to win their last three games so they wouldn't lose 100 for the fourth year in a row.
An injury–plagued campaign has been tough for Zumaya, but Verlander has had a solid sophomore season. He's a Cy Young candidate.
I can't wait to see what's going to happen these last two weeks. Stay tuned!
P.S. Hey, Blue Jays, thanks. Thanks for today and thanks for 20 years ago! Cheers.
