Hitting .302

An interesting statistic about the third–ranked strikeout hitter in the American League: Brandon Inge strikes out at a .302 average. His batting average (h/ab) is actually a dismal .242.

For everyone who is lamenting the fact that Carlos Pena is hitting so well for the D–Rays, keep in mind he has struck out at a .287 rate (129 times). With two other hitters in the top–10 already, Pena would only add to our headaches — and remember that's why we jettisoned him in the Spring of '06, anyway.

I like Inge. He's a good guy and solid teammate. He gets pitched to like he's Babe Ruth, for crying out loud — okay, so that's his opinion. If he would just learn his role as a baseball player, he would be a solid Tiger for a long time. Of course, if Alex Rodriguez ended up at short stop for the Tigers next season ... that would have no effect on Inge. Just dropping that rumor (Ken Rosenthal dropped it today).

Incidentally, Craig Monroe struck out at a .274 rate before his trade, er, donation to the Cubbies. In Chicago, he has only k'd five times in 29 at bats.

Craig was a great Tiger. Best wishes to him as a Cub.
