Detroit Tigers by the Numbers

Just some rambling numbers and thoughts about the Tigers, baseball, and/or both.

— Runs through 9 innings tonight for both teams.

— Good innings pitched by Joel Zumaya.

— Gary Sheffield's jersey. We need him hitting in the same position.

— Number of times Carlos Guillen struck out in regulation.

— Rick Leach's number when he was a Tiger. His alma mater ... ouch!

— Games behind the Indians de la Cleveland, if the Tigers lose tonight.

— Years since Grandpa Morgan and I visited Maine and Grandpa came home with a brand new '67 Chrysler.

— Sparky Anderson's jersey. They loved him in '79 when he arrived.

— Men left on base through the first 9 innings.

— Lance Parrish's Tiger number and his number with the Loons. Lance was fired today.

— Placido Polanco's jersey. Wonder what Ugie is doing today?

— Andy Van Slyke's number. Used to look forward to his quotes in The Sporting News.

— Years since the Tigers won a division title. It was the East, over Toronto.

— Coach Gibson's jersey number. I talked to him in Traverse City once, just after they decided to honor Willie Horton. Gibby didn't seem happy that he had to give up #23. Heck he wore it for years.

— Number on Willie Horton's jersey. Number on Kirk Gibson's jersey. Toss up, eh?

— Whatever happened to Travis Fryman?

— Dmitri Young, you've faded in the second half. Almost like you're still on the Tigers!

— September 27, 1999, the end of a long era.

— My Tiger!

— Really, he should be the co–MVP.

— Steve Kemp. In Anderson's doghouse. Hurt his eye as a Pirate and faded faster than Scotty Lovullo at 2B.

— Kenny Rogers' number. Wouldn't it be great to have him back, and healthy.
