The Lakeland Files

I may be tired on the flight to Floriday tomorrow. Maybe I'll feel like I'm on the way home from Las Vegas on the red eye. Tonight, I'm taking Courtney and Amber to see the Gym Class Heroes at the Intersection in Grand Rapids. I can't tell you how many times they ask, "Hey, can you take us to this concert?" They know that I like to go, but -- as with any generation gap -- I don't always dig their music. Well, Gym Class Heroes sample an old Supertramp song called "Take a Look at My Girlfriend" on their current hit "Cupid's Chokehold." This time, when they asked, I said, "Sure." I figured it would be all right on a school night since I would be flying out in the morning and they would be okay for one day.

I have been trying to secure an interview with the band, as well. Losey asked me to talk to the band for a piece in Rocket-Magazine. Trying to get ahold of the "right" people has proved difficult. I have e-mailed and called people with their management company (Crush Management), their publicity company (The Agency Group), the record company (Fueled by Ramen), and others. Finally, I called Losey and said, "Hey, this is what I've done." His answer: "Welcome to my world." I'll keep trying to see what I can do, but I don't know if I'll be getting my interview!

If you run into Rocket Magazine on the stands, pick up the March edition. There should be a piece in there about the "10 Worst Cover Songs Ever." I'm looking forward to seeing if it got changed at all!

Cheers. And I'll keep you posted from Florida!

We're ready in Lakeland. I see your map has all the Spring Training sites marked. If Lakeland is your base and you're planning to see games in other towns: I have links to directions from Joker Marchant to every other Grapefruit League facility. They're on my site, Lakeland Local

I'll be at the game Saturday. If you're there, a beer is on me.
