Visiting an old friend

Last night before the big game, Denny, Chris, Ken, and Dan and I visited Tiger Stadium as we do nearly every time we go down to a baseball game in Detroit. It's a great stop and the Detroit Athletic Company is right around the corner, so stopping for souvenirs or to watch DVDs of the '84 Series is available. But, last night we walked up on the large bridge that serves as a cross walk from the many places one could park on his/her way to ball games, prior to Sept. 27, 1999. It brought up some memories and I felt the excitement. Wait, I was already pretty excited to be going to a game a mile away that meant A LOT.

We snapped a few pics and then headed to Comerica. We park at the Detroit Cab Company and have for a few years now. It's a short walk, and Hockeytown is right along the way, so we're starting some new traditions there, as well.

What I started out wanting to say, is that if this whole thing comes to fruition and Jim Leyland leads the team to "the promised land" in his first year, then Comerica has some tradition of its own. It has the late inning rallies, the come-from-behinds, the Division Series Championship, the American League Championship ... It might be time to move on from Tiger Stadium and actually reach a resolution. If it cannot be repaired, then auction off the remains from the inside (I'm still thinking a "trough" would be really cool ...) and go ahead and raze the Stadium.

Yes, the Corner means a lot to all of us. But it's time that we let go of the past (not the traditions, just the past) and allow Comerica its day. Tiger Stadium was excellent and is still a good friend we all like to visit once in a while, but if you Google Earth it and look inside, you know what I mean.

Let's eat 'em up, Tigers. I think you're still hungry!

Any preference ... Mets? Cardinals? Bring 'em on.
