Off and running

Running ... finishing
Originally uploaded by Rick Rock Radio.
The cross country season got underway today. Courtney finished 22nd in her classification (eighth grade girls) and medaled for the first time ever. She was quite excited to finally medal after trying cross country for the first time last year. She enjoys it and runs several miles a few times every week.

In the picture above, she is nearly finished with her run and coming up on another runner quickly. I wish I would have "caught" the look on his face when he glanced back and saw her there ... He kicked it in one more level and barely beat her.

Keep on runnin', kid!

WAY TO GO COURTNEY!!!! What an accomplishment! One thing I learned when my son Ryan ran XXC all 4 years at Ionia H.S., is that XXC is a really special sport, and it is one of the best lifelong things a kid can do, is to start a habit of running. Ryan never was a "fast" runner, but he loved running! His favorite work-out was the 10 mile run on Sunday nights....liked it because it was so "pretty" running for that long, through woods, by the river, etc...
Must be his mother's kid! LOL!
Again though, good for Courtney in progressing in cross country-way cool!
