Kirk Gibson

Kirk Gibson appeared on The Best Damn Sports Show Period tonight. For the previous three years, he had been the Detroit Tigers bench coach. He also served as hitting coach for part of last season.

Gibby answered some questions I had been curious about. He is excited about the Tigers season. He said they're having a great year. He admitted that Manager Alan Trammell and the coaches lost control of things last year. He said many of the things they had preached are coming to fruition right now -- and said that the Tigers have been healthy this year.

Interestingly, he did not seem bitter about being let go. He was positive about the Tigers' season and said he hopes they win the World Series. He mentioned he watched the Tigers win the Series in '68 as a sixth grader. Funny, I remember watching the '84 season as a sixth grader ...

If you haven't read his book, The Bottom of the Ninth, you should think about it. His theory is that you must DEFEAT THE BEAST. It's a good read, quick.
