The Rookie Arms
Yesterday was Photo Day at Comerica Park in Detroit. The Tigers played host to the Oakland Athletics and jumped out to a 6-0 run in the first inning. They held on to win, 8-4.
Nearly 41,000 fans journeyed out to the ballpark for this Sunday action, get-away day for both teams. The Tigers headed to Cleveland after the victory.
In the picture above, two rookie right handers posed for me. Joel Zumaya, who is getting a ton of national press because he throws the ball 103 miles per hour, and Justin Verlander, who only breaks 100 on the gun, are both having great seasons!
The atmosphere -- totally electric. Yes, some of the crowd, about 40,000, were skeptical when the Tigers scored big runs in the first again, but with The Gum Man (Nate "Dogg" Robertson) on the mound, we were soon relaxed. Robertson pitched well and Zumaya pitched the final two innings, hitting 100+ several times.
Make sure you tune in on FSN Detroit tonight to watch the Tigers play rival Central Division foe Cleveland.
