Changing of the Guard

We've seen it many times in Detroit.

In the 80s, Lance Parrish left, Kirk Gibson left, Jack Morris left ... Several years later the Tigers offered a bank and then some to Juan Gonzalez, who jilted them. I guess they should have offered more steroids than money, or cork for his back. Enough on that topic, I guess.

The early 90s were not good for Detroit's major sports teams, except the Red Wings (and the Lions to an extent). The Tigers were down and the Pistons were terrible after the two championships. Coaches in, coaches out ... oh, never mind, that's a Dumars specialty ...

Now, Big Ben Wallace is leaving for Chicago -- a nice little town by the way. And Brendan Shanahan has bolted for New York City, someplace I'd like to visit. Steve Yzerman has retired, though some think he might skate again in March ...

Times change and players come and go.

It's the changing of the guard. And it happens. Detroit sports will be okay ....
