Jonesey

OK, OK, I have to say that the Tigers bullpen is darn good right now. Zumaya just fires the ball across the plate and dares the hitter to swing. Kind of like what we expected of Matt Anderson. Rodney has been blowing it past hitters, too. Jimmy Leyland chewed him out during Sunday's game and he recovered to get the save. Tonight, Todd Jones scored a save. Don't look now but he's quickly moving up into the top couple of firemen in the American League. The Tigers, with 16 saves, are leading the league. This doesn't even take into consideration the other guys who are just "doing their jobs."

I don't remember the Tigers having this much fun since Kevin Saucier was jumping around like a madman after getting a save ... way back in '81. Yeah, that's a stretch because '84 and '87, not to mention '88, were a great deal of fun for the Motor City Nine. But, in a posting about relievers, it's all right to pay homage to a pretty fun reliever from the last time the Tigers were getting good!

Keep it up. And we'll see you Sunday, Redlegs!

It looks like the Year of the Rolling Tuna Can could include a few trips to the Copa to watch the playoff race. The way the pitching staff is looking, they should be able to keep it up. 2006, what a year so far!
