Scene of the crime
Tonight, the Tigers return to the scene of the "crime." It was late July during the summer of '05, when Dave Dombrowski suddenly jettisoned 100-MPH flamethrower Kyle Farnsworth to the Hotlanta Braves for a couple of mid-level prospects. The team was heading out west to Oakland when the dynamics began to change. Okay, really, we have learned that the dynamics never really began to change. I have read in several publications (mostly the Detroit newspapers) where writers are saying they have never seen a clubhouse as disjointed as the Detroit Tigers' during '05. Amazing, because it had been a few years since the days of Fick, Weaver, Matt Anderson, and the other "wild boys." Amazingly, things went bad from the day Marcus Thames was sent down to Toledo again after clearly earning a shot at the big club. I don't remember who made the team in his stead, but I think he's running a limo company. It appears that things went from bad to worse as the season progressed. I'll tell you what, I'd love to read a story about the '05 Tigers. From all accounts, things are already better in '06. Read yesterday's posting about Mr. Leyland taking charge!

The Tigers still have to show the consistency of a winning team. Leyland was in the right to get after his team, but, as we know that will only work so many times. The players keep refering to this team as "His (Leylands) team, its time for them to step up and take some leadership. Yesterday, I read an article on the Pistons where Ben Wallace was asked if the Pistons are now "Flips Team" (after the last two years being "Browns Team"). Wallace answered, this isn't any one persons team were just a team.
Tuna, Great point ... As the Pistons have clearly proven during the last four years (with three different coaches) they are a TEAM and they have no room for INDIVIDUALS (sure are a lot of "I"s in that word). Flip is a good guide, Larry was a good guide, and so was Carlisle. Now, though, it sounds like the players and management in Indy are tired of his act. Funny, two years there ... two years in Detroit. It takes two years to get to know him, eh?
