Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives

American Food Tour

One thing Lori and I like to do is explore places that have been featured on Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives. The reason we like to do this, is that many places we have previously visited ended up on the show. Last summer in Washington, D.C. we visited a place on Capitol Hill, Tune In. Turns out it had previously been on the show and we had no idea. It's just something we like to do.

Last Sunday on a road trip we ended up at at Chase Creek Smokehouse. It hasn't been on the show yet, but it's the kind of place that could easily be featured. You should check it out if you're ever over that way on US-10.  I'll post my Yelp! review below as we really recommend checking it out.

The day started out with some rain showers, but cleared up in the afternoon. We took a little road trip, trying to enjoy our role as Sunday drivers. In the afternoon, we were driving east on US-10, talking about stopping in Reed City for a bite to eat. We thought about grabbing grub in Baldwin, but it was Blessing of the Bikes, so the little town was swarming with bikers. We don't have anything against bikers, the thought of waiting an hour to eat when we were hungry just didn't sound good to us. As were headed further east, I spotted a sign on the side of the road that said Chase Creek Smoke House Next Right. I brought it up and we decided to stop in for a bite.
Well, you can imagine our surprise when the parking lot was full of Harley Davidsons with a bunch of folks mingling around. We thought maybe there would be a wait, but we checked and found out we could get immediate seating. What an excellent choice! The Danish style ribs, which I had never heard of prior, were incredible. The chicken wings were cooked to a crispness I hadn't experience before. Even the baked beans and coleslaw were delicious. The Chase Creek Smoke House is in the middle of nowhere, and I would encourage you to check it out next time you're heading on US-10 west of Reed City. My wife, Lori, had the Reuben and said it was the best she had ever had. She said it was better than the Mackinaw Brewing Company Reuben, which we had listed high on our rankings for years.
